Red Hatters July 2022

Here it is July 13th and what a busy few weeks for our members.

There have been family birthday parties, fourth of July activities, doctors and dentist appointments to fulfill and now here we are.

It is a beautiful day in Woburn at the home of one of our members.

Our annual Pot Luck lunch is always a fun day. Surprises all around, since we never divulge our selections until we are here. Over the many years we have had very few duplicate dishes so everyone gets a portion of something delicious every time.

There was shrimp, chicken pot pie, chili, sausage patties with mixed salad.

We had watermelon and mixed fruits. there was tiramisu , hoodies cups, water, and soda.

Two of our members donned their bathing suits and hit the pool, while the rest of us just relaxed in the shade.

We had our weekly meeting and discussed things happening from now till December.

What a great Red Hat day.

July 16th and the Jenks Senior Center in Winchester was our next destination. We were going to see Sheryl Faye doing another of her amazing performances. Although many of us have seen her in most of her appearances, it is always a joy to repeat the famous historical women that she portrays.

This day it was the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. The fearless adventuresome spirited Amelia Earhart. You could feel yourself in the plane over the ocean as Sheryl did her magic for us.Her portrayal of historical women are outstanding. check out her website at www.sherylfaye.com and see what else she has done.

We enjoyed our lunch at the Swanton Diner just a few blocks from the Center. Good food, good conversation and we continue to fly.

July 17th it was the Old Tymers Baseball in Newbury. This is always a fun day. We brought out chairs and we get to sit up close to get the real feel of the game.

Today's double header was between Lynn Live Oaks and the Newburyport Clamdiggers. First game..Lynn 7...Newburyport 4. Second game Lynn 3 and Newburyport 13. Beautiful day in the shade of the trees, shouting and applause and just a whole lot of fun. Three members and one husband; as two of us decided to go to Polcari's in Woburn for an early dinner. They stopped serving bread but the food and service was great.

July 25th and we planned the go to the beach, Revere Beach that is. We planned to see the Revere Beach International Sand Sculpting Festival. The temperature was 81 degrees at 6am. so off I went alone to take a few pictures. One of our other members went early on Sunday, so we got it covered. The sculptors came from all around the word to do their magic in an enclosed area on the beach.

The contest was over and the name posters were lying about so I did not know who did each piece. What I did see was artists from Vermont, Florida, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium and California.

From a pile of sand the emerging of the works are amazing.

This is just a sampling of what I saw before I headed home to the air conditioning. But like the Red Sox we can look for them again next year.

July 30th ,almost to the end of this month, WOW.

This had to be special so the Cheese Cake Factory in Burlington is where we were heading. One of our members has insisted on taking the member out for dessert. That's right DESSERT.

We have mentioned before that being a Red Hatter we could eat dessert before our meal, if we wanted to; so we chose to do just that today. There actually was no meal....just delicious dessert.

Key Lime Cheese cake,Banana Cream pie cheese cake, Chocolate Carmel cheese cake, Carmel Pecan Tort cheese cake.

Oh, all the cheese cakes came with a pile of whipped cream. None of us checked the calories listed on the menu; we just dug in and enjoyed. Probably no dinner for anyone today. Once in a lifetime. The Red Hat Way.

Smiles all around and thinking about what to do next month. Keep an eye on us ...
