RED HATTERS FOR NOVEMBER 2018

November 11th was our first outing for this getting colder and darker month.

We had planned a play at a local church but reviews from friends, that had seen the show, did not give us great reports.

But we are Red Hatters and we had this day planned for something, so after some consideration, we drove to the Tewksbury Country Club.

Most of the leaves have gone from the surrounding trees and a slight breeze moved the stick like branches around.

The green lawns of the golf course and the still green trees made us think maybe winter is still a bit away.

We enjoyed the wonderful atmosphere, the great food, and our usual joy of just being together on a cold but beautiful day. It’s the Red Hat way.

On November 18th we headed to Methuen. Our first stop was the Irish Cottage for breakfast. A great place filled with happy hungry people. The food was filling, the service outstanding and the hunger seemed to disappear as we enjoyed the atmosphere and the camaraderie of each other and the rest of the patrons.

After breakfast we drove a short distance to see the Festival of Trees. This was the 25th. Anniversary of the magical display of over 250 beautifully decorated trees.

The display was set up to please everyone. Sports fans, children, religious and fun themes. There was a small room where Santa Claus was available for picture taking; and where table top trees were on display. It was crowded with the start of a holiday feeling.

It was ice cream time when we got back to Wakefield; so we stopped at Cravings ice cream parlor, to enjoy the flavors that only ice-cream cones have. What a perfect Red Hat Day!

On November 28th five members of our group went to the Senior Center in Melrose to enjoy the Delvena Theatre Company present a dramatic reading of Charles Dickens Christmas Carol. We had seen the group before and they are a very talented and an enjoyable group to see and hear. The performance brought to life Tiny Tim, the ghost of Marley, along with the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and the Ghost of Christmas Future. There were three members of the group that played the twenty parts needed to get us in the holiday spirit.

After the performance we chose to eat at our local Liberty Bell where we had sandwiches and conversation as we moved closer to the holiday.
