Red Hatters for September 2022

Here it is after Labor Day and the temperature is heading down. We can put away the fans and enjoy the beginning of Fall.

On September7th we joined a group from the Melrose Senior Center along with members of three other centers. We were headed to Gloucester for a boat tour and a lobster lunch. Buses loaded we were off at 9:30 am heading towards what we thought would be a boxed lunch.

It was much more than we expected...tables were set for everyone. Clam chowder was served and a buffet with chicken, corn on the cob, cole slaw, potato salad and rolls was available. Lobsters were served at the tables along with butter , bibs, and nut crackers.

There was dessert from the birthday cake that Stacey's Mother received. Purple and Red decorations reminded everyone that those are our Red Hat colors.

The disc jokey, Dana send out the music as the boat moved from the dock and we ate, chatted and had a great afternoon cruising.

As we sailed we had a chance to enjoy the beautiful views of the sky and ocean around Gloucester.

A job well done by Stacey and Erica, the powers that be at the Milano center; The Red Hatters say Thanks...

On Sunday September 11th it was once again a trip to the Jenks Center in Winchester to see Sheryl Fay as Sally Ride, the first American woman astronaut.

Sheryl changed her outfits and moved right along so we didn't even realize the changes. Not a missed word or act as she continued to entertain us

Sheryl was at her best today with a history lesson about aviation and the outstanding work of Sally Ride throughout her life.

It is always a great joy to see her preform.

Our lunch today was at Bickford's in Woburn. Always a good meal and service at this restaurant. We even got us a new member who seems to enjoy our way of living.

Keeping busy , having fun and staying safe is our way to go.

September 14th, the 2nd Wednesday of the month, and it was our usual meeting day. We are meeting at the library in Wakefield and we had a lot to discuss.

Plans for the rest of the month and months to come were on the agenda.

But we did not not to end the day so early, so we got in our cars and headed for Castle Island and Sullivan's. It was a beautiful day filled with sunshine and happy people.

PS She is wearing a purple hat because it is her birthday this month. It's a Red Hatter's thing.

Hot dogs, with mustard, relish, and onions all around and Red Hat smiles...that always makes us happy.

Low tide and sparkling water..what better than spending time at the beach.

On September16th we headed to the Stoneham Senior Center to witness the performance of Anne Lanphear. None of the members had seen or heard Anne's performance before and we were pleasantly surprised.

She has a magnificent voice. She sang songs from the movies and theater that were from our lifetimes. Beautiful songs with a touch of alibiing about the original performances, and the singers that made the songs famous. It was a lovely hour, and we will look forward to her next appearance locally.

Some of us went to Brother's in Wakefield for a late lunch, and talked about the music that some of us were still humming.

A nice sunny fall day to look back with nostalgia, and remember the past as we go forward into the future.

On September 26th. a few of our members headed for the Melrose Senior center to listen to Denise Doucette perform. Denise is a wonderful singer, songwriter, guitarist who has 40 years of experience in her field. She sang songs from her new CD/Video "Places I call Home" along with some of Pattie Pages great tunes, toe tapping to "How much is that doggie in the window". Denise's mother Becky,also gave the group of about 50 people,her rendition of the song she wrote many years ago. "The Rocking Chair". It was a very enjoyable time to hear mother and daughter performing together. Always a good time when we can actually understand the words of the songs of our era.

September 29th and it was just a few friends having lunch at Liberty Bell
