Add to that the hot summer sun, the hot sand of the beach and large crowds. Crowds gathering to watch a three day event from beginning to end as sculptors shape mounds of sand into themed artistic designs. Although they are competing with their individual creations, they work together on creating one large themed piece.

Without naming the winners, your job as a reader of this article is put yourself in the shoes of the judges and choose which sculpture you think would be your blue ribbon prize winner for the individual, not group effort.
The overall theme as the artists worked together was in celebrating the 50th Anniversary of moon landing in which three astronauts, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins set out into space.
