UPDATE: DPW Director John Scenna reached out to Melrose Patch to explain the pooling water seen on Morelli Field in one of the photos above.

"The field actually performed as designed—the field is designed to flood in left field," Scenna said.

In times of flash floods and high intensity storms, Scenna said, designing the field to have water pool on the left side of Morelli intends to protect the artificial turf of Fred Green Field, as well as the rest of Morelli Field such as the infield.

"What we’re happy to see is it receded quickly, within 40 minutes of the storm," Scenna said, adding that people were using Fred Green Field later that evening. "Obviously the natural field (of Morelli) was wet, but there wasn’t any ponding. As you know, in years past, water would just pond forever."
