
There are white caps on the lake. The water is dark and the wind moves the water eastward towards the afternoon sun. The daisies dance to an unknown song as they toss around on their spindly stems.

Earlier today, when I took the dog out, my heart skipped a beat at the sight of a magnificent blue heron at the base of the bird feeders. It drew in its neck, dropped back its legs, spread its powerful and beautiful wings and magically flew towards the lake, took a turn westward and vanished out of sight.

Perhaps once or twice a year I am favored by the appearance of this wonderful creature. A symbol of my feelings for this bird stands at the shore of the lake where a sculpture, made by a friend, watches out for the lake and me.

There is thunder in the air as the sky turns from shades of blue to matted grey. Raindrops silently strike the window in droplets.
The trees and shrubs are in a frenzy as they are being tossed about. This second day of summer the wind blows as if it were a winter North-Easter.
Gold finches remain firm on the feeders as they move back and forth in the wind. A grosbeak, with its black cap and bright red spot on its white breast, is also at the feeder. How they hold on is a mystery to me.

A drum role of thunder hits the air and the sky turned darker as the rain falls hard and fast on the shore and lawn; and then it is quiet once more. The sun appeared, the lake is calm and a rainbow colors the smooth surface of the water.
A perfect day; a day to remember; the second day of summer 2019
