Sunny and Warm

by Shirley Rabb

The man on the radio proclaims “sunny and warm”. Why then does a dark cloud hover overhead concealing the sun?

It perhaps is to allow us time to open our eyes and see all that surrounds us. To listen, perhaps, to the music of nature for a moment. So shut the sounds of the electronic world from our mind.

The lake is low but not less clear than any other year. The sandy hill on the other side shines; it seems the sun comes thru over there. The trees are still across the lake, mostly pines tall and green. Here we are surrounded by a variety of birch and oak along with the pines. Orange and yellow marigolds and the roses planted with a hope to add color to the purple orchard and yellow wildflowers.

The lovely daisy in a bunch by the fireplace reflect brightly the orange and black butterfly resting gently on its way to ..Who knows where?

Surely this is the reason for the cloud. For all about the sky is endless and azure blue. No one disturbs the picture. The leaves rustle in the gentle breeze, the butterfly seems to be holding on for fear of falling of its perch.

You can hear the winds song, a soft symphony to the ears and now a dog barks and now the sun is out again.

Its time to close my eyes again and dream of all that I have seen in the past fleeting moments when a dark cloud reminded me of where I am.
