Who remembers telephone party lines? We had a 4-party line that we shared with 3 other families, none of whom we knew. If you wanted to make a call, good luck trying to get the line because when you pick up, most of the time, another family was on it. You never knew how often to pick up to see if the other party was off. Sometimes they were on for so long you cut in to tell them you had an“emergency”. Of course, when YOU were on, it was a different story. YOU were experiencing the same situation with the other parties picking up constantly. Forget about privacy. Imagine people today putting up with that? Everyone has their own phones today, including young children, allowing their parents to be inconstant contact with them…or not!!! When you see kids anywhere today, they are not on the playground, they are glued to their phones playing games or talking to friends, keeping their parents from calling them. In the “olden” days, we had a public telephone on almost every street corner, allowing you to be still in contact with others when out of the house. If you forget to take your phone with you today, what do you do if you NEED to contact someone, maybe an emergency?Asked a stranger? Call 911?
