As the song goes, “what a difference a day makes” but what a difference 20 YEARS makes. However, some people don’t know the difference, especially when it come to the value of money. As we know, the dollar value today is much different than it was 20 years ago although we treat it differently, depending on the situation. 20 years ago a cup of coffee cost $1 and today it is as much as $5 (Starbucks?) and eating at a restaurant went from, maybe, $5 to $25. The cost of living was up comparably for just about everything else, EXCEPT maybe charities. Many people keep up with the cost of living for charities but we know that many don’t. It’s pretty obvious when you see the single dollar bills, and even change, in collection containers for various causes in many places, like coffee shops where people are paying that $5 for a cup of coffee EVERY day. And at church, you see many dollar bills, change sometimes, dropped in the collection basket, along with envelopes from the people keeping up with the cost of living. So the next time you see a collection basket or container, if you’re one of those dollar people, try to at least double your contribution after all these years.
