Do you remember kids taking typing lessons in school, some even going to an expensive secretarial school… like Katherine Gibbs? Are there still typewriters? Is typing taught today on computers? Do they have STILL have secretarial schools? Do they still have secretaries, stenographers, dictation, shorthand, dictating machines, etc. I think not, other than maybe in courtrooms or a CEO in his 90’s with an 80-year-old “secretary”, now called administrative assistant? I was a 2 finger typist back in the day, the fastest 2 fingers in the East, faster than a speeding bullet and faster than those professionally trained to use 10 fingers. They needed to memorize “The Quick Brown Fox Jumped Over the Lazy Cow” so they can stretch their 10 fingers to every key. My daughter was secretary to a CEO in a major banking institution back when. She tells me that HER daughter outwits her in “typing” with NO typing lessons. While my daughter is texting with 2 fingers these days, rather than 10, HER daughter is texting with what seems like HER 10 fingers. Talk about a reverse picture!!! We have seen this with the kids today who are glued to their phones, oblivious to everyone and everything around them, punching the keys a mile a minute leaving the adults biting the dust…What a difference between the old large typewriter keyboard and todays IPHONE, and no longer a need to stretch your 10 fingers to reach the keys. Although you NOW need to SQUISH your fingers on the tiny keys.
