Thoughts while shaving

by Jim Tierney

Everyone has habits, some good and some bad. Years ago my cousin Annie, long gone, told me she rinses off with cold water when she takes a shower that’s invigorating and makes her feel good all day and helped her have a long life. I tried it a few times...brrrr…and skipped a few times and then it became a regular habit. I can’t take a shower today without rinsing off with cold water. At 90 now, who knows, maybe it DOES prolong my life. When I’m driving, I have a habit of going the same way every time to my destination thinking, OF COURSE, that MY way is the best way. When someone ELSE is doing the driving and they drive a different route, I think THEY are driving the wrong way, OF COURSE. When I use a GPS and it takes me a third route, since the GPS route is “as the crow flies”, I think that MAYBE I’ve been going the wrong way all these years. These aren’t considered good OR bad habits. Good habits are probably learned from our parents, like saying thank you, opening a door for someone, being considerate, taking the smaller piece of cake, etc. However, you can blame yourself for bad habits, like eating too much and being overweight, driving erratically, cursing and swearing, being inconsiderate, taking the BIGGEST piece of cake, etc.
