Tips From Public Help Melrose Police ID Bike Theft Suspect

Police spent Wednesday trying to contact Revere man and convince him to turn himself in.

Melrose police now know the identity of the Revere man caught by security cameras stealing a bicycle in front of a business this week thanks to a flood of tips from the public, according to a Wicked Local report.

The man, whose name hasn’t been released yet, has an extensive history of run-ins with the law, the report stated.

Police have been attempting to contact the man in order to see if he’ll voluntarily turn himself in, the report stated. If that’s unsuccessful, a warrant will be issued for his arrest, the report added.

The fast and overwhelming response from residents with information about the crime is being credited with helping law enforcement crack the case so quickly, the report stated. Police blanketed the community with video and photos of the man at the scene, Promax Supply, 142 Franklin St., on July 13, pedaling away with a Trek Marlin 5 bike.
