Fire Strikes Green Street Office Building Saturday Night [VIDEO]
Report of the fire first came in at approximately 10:25 p.m. Heavy, black smoke billowed out of the building.

battled what was at least a two-alarm fire on Saturday night at 150 Green St., an office building at the corner of Howard Street.
The report of smoke first came in at approximately 10:25 p.m. Report of a working fire quickly came back once Melrose Fire arrived on scene.

Firefighters were on the roof cutting holes—circular saws could be heard buzzing from the street—and ran a hose both through the front door and through the basement back door of the building, which is a level lower than street level. Firefighters from Wakefield, Malden, Saugus, Everett and Reading also responded to assist with the fire and for backup.
No flames were visible from outside the building, front or back, but heavy, dark smoke billowed out from the building's windows.

The building appeared to be unoccupied at the time of the fire.
Neighbors on scene said that an accounting firm had an office in the building, which formerly housed an air conditioning and heating company as well. Other businesses in the building could not be immediately confirmed.
The building was once the home of the Elmwood Convenience store, according to Alderman at Large Mary Beth McAteer Margolis.
By 11:15 p.m., firefighters were beginning to stand down and clear out. According to Melrose Fire radio reports, National Grid responded to the building later in the evening.
A cause has not been determined yet.
