Waiting for a change

by Shirley Rabb

Today it should feel like spring; but I have been told that the temperature of 40 degrees is 15 degrees below normal for this time of year.

There is no snow on the beach; or ice on the driveway, but it is a silent winterish grey day.

There are no trees or bushes in bloom. The birch tree hangs still with bare branches that seem like webs against the ominous hazy sky.

The small red squirrel has found the bird feeders, a few chickadees have appeared, but they do not disturb the silent day.

The burning bushes appear as twigs reaching for a warmer, sunny day to sprout its beautiful shade of red.

The green trees close to the house, and across the lake are still. There is no breeze, only the waiting for sunshine and warmth and the next season to come.

The lake is dark without the sunshine and there is no sign of ducks or deer.

But, it is peaceful and quiet as it should be on my first day back after months away.

It is as it should be!

Later in the day I heard the Loons!
