What lies ahead

What lies ahead for those that fly, or run or crawl?

What is the view from high in the sky as the birds soar ahead?

What lies ahead at the marathon with pounding feet and screaming crowds as the runner streaks to the goal?

And what lies ahead as on hands and knees the baby reaches out for the support of a parent?

What lies ahead as the seasons change and months turn to years?

What make us whole, belonging to the universe, and belonging to each other?

The blades of grass sway with the wind and the trees hum a tune as they dance in the breeze.

The animals are content when we tend them; but what about us?

What lies ahead at 20 or 40 or 80 years of age?

What shall we do to remain part of the universe and all of ourselves? What mark will we leave for those behind; for those that fly and run and crawl?

What really lies ahead?
