MELROSE, MA — Many braved the Thursday morning cold to attend a brief City Hall ceremony on Melrose's second annual White Ribbon Day. The event was put on by the Melrose Alliance Against Violence.

White Ribbon Day was started in 1991 by Canadian me in response to a man's killing of 14 women in Montreal. The day's recognition has spread to over 60 countries, all focused on men doing their part in fighting male violence against women and girls.

Melrose schools students and staff were joined by city and state officials Thursday.
