Crews from five neighboring fire stations helped put out the fire.
MILFORD, MA- A woman was rescued from a house fire Wednesday night in Milford that left ten residents displaced.
Off-duty dispatcher Jay Covino saw the fire while driving home after his shift and immediately called the Milford Police Department Dispatch Center and reported the fire at 10:50 p.m. at 16 North Bow St. according to police. Covino went door to door to evacuate residents while police and fire crews made their way over, police said.
Fire crews and police on scene were told there was a woman trapped on the second floor of the home, which housed multiple residents. Firefighters were able to rescue the woman from the building and she was taken to Milford Regional Medical Center and then transferred to another hospital, fire officials said.

Covino lives just down the street from where the fire happened and said he was making his usual drive around after work. "I saw smoke and called work to let them know I thought there was a fire- then I went in and started banging on doors to get people out," Covino said. Within minutes he was joined by Milford police officers who sweep the building and evacuate residents. Covino said he didn't have to think twice about jumping in to get residents out, "I guess it was just instinct, I just want to help people," he said.
Fire officials said about ten residents were displaced by the fire. The building's landlord brought all displaced residents to a hotel for the night.
