State Approves Tax Credits For Candy Maker's Milford Expansion

A candy maker's planned move to Milford has cleared a key state step tied to the company's expansion plans.

MILFORD, MA — A candy maker's planned move to Milford has cleared a key state step tied to the company's expansion plans.

The Massachusetts Economic Assistance Coordinating Council approved $1.8 million in Economic Development Incentive Program tax credits for Sky Nutro, which plans to invest $12 million in Milford and create 120 new jobs, according to a state announcement from Gov. Maura Healey's office.

Sky Nutro manufactures gummy candies, fruit snacks and functional nutrition products, including reduced-sugar formulations and other healthier alternatives. The company chose Milford after a multi-state search, according to the state.

The approval follows a May appearance before the Milford Select Board, where company officials outlined plans to lease 93,000 square feet at 5-7 Industrial Road and move the company's headquarters and manufacturing operations from Southbridge to Milford.

The Select Board voted in May to authorize a letter of support to the state as Sky Nutro sought the tax credit. Company officials said at the time that the business had outgrown its 22,000-square-foot Southbridge facility.

Sky Nutro, founded in 2021, had 25 full-time employees at the time of the Select Board discussion and expected to create 120 permanent full-time jobs in Milford. The company said the jobs would include skilled positions such as engineers and executive-level staff, with estimated salaries ranging from $75,000 to $90,000.

The EDIP program offers tax credits to companies that commit to job creation, employee retention and private investment in Massachusetts, according to the state.

State officials said the June EACC approvals covered 11 projects statewide that are expected to create 2,793 new jobs, retain 1,503 existing jobs and leverage more than $1.4 billion in private investment in exchange for $52 million in state tax credits.
