MILFORD, MA — A Hartford man is facing charges after two vehicles were broken into outside a Milford gym, police said.

Jonathan Jamal Walker, 35, faces charges including two counts each of breaking and entering into a vehicle at nighttime for a felony, malicious damage to a motor vehicle and larceny under $1,200 following the incidents on Friday at Planet Fitness, 146 South Main St., according to Milford police.

Police received the first report around 8:37 p.m. after a vehicle window was smashed and a purse containing personal belongings was stolen. A second victim later reported that their vehicle window had also been smashed and belongings had been taken.

Detectives reviewing surveillance footage identified a white Volkswagen Tiguan as the suspected vehicle and later located it on Main Street, police said. A man was seen leaving the vehicle with what appeared to be a purse or satchel, walking down Central Street and returning several minutes later without the bag.

Officers found the vehicle behind the 7-Eleven at 127 Main St. around 10:40 p.m. and identified Walker as the driver, police said. A records check showed an active warrant for his arrest.

Milford police K-9 Ozzy searched the area where officers saw Walker carrying the bag. Several stolen items were found inside a Central Street dumpster shortly after the search began, police said.

Walker was also charged with a number plate violation to conceal identification, possession of a burglary instrument, and the outstanding warrant.

"Those who come into our community to prey on our residents and steal their property should know that we will use every resource available to identify them, locate them and hold them accountable," Police Chief Robert Tusino said.
