MILFORD, MA — Milford residents will have another opportunity this month to safely dispose of unwanted prescription medications.
The Milford Police Department and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will hold National Prescription Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 24. Medications can be dropped off outside the front entrance of the Milford Senior Center, 60 North Bow St.
The collection is intended to prevent unused medications from being diverted, misused or accidentally ingested. Authorities also discourage flushing medications or throwing them in the trash because of potential health, safety and environmental risks.
The DEA collected 642,410 pounds of unwanted medications at 4,417 sites nationwide during its April Take Back Day, according to Milford police. In Massachusetts, 160 participating law enforcement agencies collected 23,831 pounds.
This comes just months after Milford police and the DEA held a similar collection in April.
