MENDON, MA — A Black Lives Matter march will be held in Mendon this weekend, one week after a BLM sign at a local church was vandalized.

The vandalism was reported on Friday after a sign at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Mendon and Uxbridge was found ripped to pieces. The incident was reported to Mendon police.

The Saturday march will begin at noon at Henry P. Clough High School along North Avenue. The march will then proceed to the Unitarian Universalist church at 13 Maple St.

Although the march follows the vandalism incident, the protesters are also planning to highlight the deaths of Elijah McClain in Aurora, Colo., and Vanessa Guillen at Fort Hood in Texas.

"Our goal is to spur conversation about racial bias and systemic racism which is allowed to continue in part due to the disconnection between urban progress and suburban insulation," the organizers said on a Facebook event page.
