MILFORD, MA — A collaboration between a Southwick distillery and a regional nonprofit for developmentally disabled people resulted in a big hand sanitizer delivery in Milford over the weekend.

On Sunday, Milford's Evergreen Center received 10 jugs of sanitizer from Tobacco Road Distillery. The delivery happened after The Northeast Arc asked Tobacco Road to make sanitizer to keep facilities clean.

"The Northeast Arc knew that there were several other nonprofit service providers that would also be in great need and agreed to purchase the entire batch: 630 64-ounce jugs of hand sanitizer" the nonprofit said in a news release. "They started contacting other organizations who were grateful for the opportunity to get the hand sanitizer and will be coming from across Massachusetts to pick it up."

With a nationwide shortage of hand sanitizer due to the new coronavirus outbreak, many distillers are retooling to make isopropyl alcohol, which can be used in place of handwashing.

Milford's Evergreen Center operates a residential school for students with developmental disabilities.
