Group Advocating Ban Of Pot Shops Threatened, Car Vandalized

Milford CARES was the target of threatening letter and vandalism.

MILFORD, MA—An advocacy group that was formed in Milford to urge voters to vote "yes" to ban recreational marijuana shops in town says it was the target of vandalism and a threatening letter over the weekend.

MilfordCARESformed to campaign for the "yes" vote on the question, which is the only question on the special town ballot on Sept. 19 in Milford.

Over the weekend, the group said its Chairwoman Donna Niro's car was egged and had the word "no" written on it, and also the group received a threatening letter. Peppered with the "F-word," we are not sharing the entire letter, titled "Freedom of Speach [sic].... leave s#@t on ur own doorstep."

The letter begins, "F*&^ you. Weed is one of the most beneficial substances for our body....I will vote NO as many f^%$ing times as I can and will have as many people as I know vote no don't stop weed from coming to Milford."

A paragraph is here:

The letter concludes with "Freedom of speach [sic]. Go f&^% yourselives [sic] 'vote yes' idiotic stupid dumb moron. You are this dumb cuz you don't smoke."

The "vile and threatening email was sent to the MilfordCARES email account-the content more toxic than anything we have read on Facebook posts," wrote a member in an email to Patch.

The car owned by Niro was severely damaged, as it was keyed and egged with the word "no" etched into the paint in several places.

"I'm so grateful that it was the car and not a person," Niro told Patch. "The car can be repaired to the tune of $5K, and it is an inconvenience. However, I wouldn't be able to sleep if someone was physically harmed on either side of the vote. It's a shame this has become such a contentious issue."

Both incidents were reported to Milford police, said MilfordCARES.
