The Midtown Family Fitness Youth Triathlon drew a good crowd Saturday. Everyone got a free slushie and a certificate.

The third annual took place Saturday morning on the . The event was strictly for fun, and 23 youngsters aged 8 to 13, registered for the race.

Elly Filosa, a retired physical education teacher with the Milford public schools, was the coordinator.

The first phase of the event was a half-mile race from behind the along the Upper Charles Trail to the In the second leg, the athletes had to swim the 400-foot length of the pool, then race back the half mile to the starting point. The final portion of the triathlon was a repeat of the distance (one mile up and back) on their bicycles.
