LETTER: 'I Will Vote No On Sept. 19'

"The scope of language in the ballot question was changed behind closed doors and that sets a bad example."

Something just isn’t right about the upcoming referendum in Milford on Sept. 19. As a Milford resident it shocks me that the process has lacked transparency from the beginning and undermines the entire voting process.

A majority of Milford residents voted last November in favor of legalizing recreational marijuana in Massachusetts. Now, a small group is trying to quietly overturn the vote and also ban existing licensed businesses in town through a special election. Why are they trying to make us vote again? We already voted
on this and the fact that a small group has quietly changed the wording of the ballot during the summer months isn’t right.

The scope of language in the ballot question was changed behind closed doors and that sets a bad example for future votes in our town. If a small group has the power to change what a lot of us already voted on and approved, what’s next?

What’s to stop them from changing any other law they want in their advantage? The ballot language goes too far and is bad for Milford. Vote No on Sept.19.
