Why’s Alex Boudreau the Patch Player of the Week?
Alex Boudreau is a senior tri-captain as well as an integral part of head coach Dave Dague’s varsity boys’ lacrosse team. Boudreau has been a part of the lacrosse program since he was a youth, beginning in 2006, and has played a key role in helping the Scarlet Hawks reach the playoffs for the first time in their three-year history. (The program began in 2009.)

The Hawks recently clinched a playoff berth and at 10-3 with about one-fourth of the season remaining, the Hawks can put the 3-15 record from a year ago in their rearview mirror. “We came in and set the goal to make the playoffs [earlier this year] and we did that with our win against Marlborough,” Boudreau said. “Now we’re just trying to ride it out and keep things up. We’re just trying to get a better seed now.”
Though Boudreau may not score or get a lot of assists (He has tallied on assist in the season), the effort he exerts on the field defensively can’t be measured in points or be seen in the box score. In fact, in most of the games, Boudreau is tabbed to defend the opposing teams’ best offensive weapons. Stopping a goal is just as good as good as getting a goal, in Boudreau’s case. Boudreau, however, does lead the team in one of the most important stats: ground balls. “His determination and hustle to go after ground balls is one of the reasons the team is 10-3,” Dague said.
Boudreau is also quite the hockey player and throughout his career at has played numerous positions while on the ice. Despite the [hockey] team's tough seasons, Boudreau shined brightly and was named to the Central Massachusetts Division 3A all-star team in both his junior and senior years.
What college or professional athlete inspires you and why?
Not really anyone, specifically. It’s really the coaches that get us to where we are. We’ve improved 100 percent because of the coaching staff we have this year. Coach Dague is a great guy. He came in and set the goal for us. He told us that our goal is playoffs and that’s what we’re aiming toward and we came out and got that pretty quick. We bought into what he’s been telling us, so things have been pretty good.
What is your most memorable experience as an athlete so far?
It would probably be making playoffs this year in lacrosse. It’s huge to make it, after last year, because we weren’t really the greatest team and to come out and turn it around like we did to make the playoffs, that’s big. Being my senior year and being a senior captain, [making playoffs is] just great for the team and for the younger kids coming up.
Also I played in the All-star game junior and senior year for hockey at Fitchburg and Westborough which is a pretty good accomplishment.
What are your plans for the future athletically and academically?
I’m going to Wentworth [Institute of Technology] in the fall to major in management and I plan on trying to play lacrosse by walking on to the team there.
