MILFORD, MA — Milford may have a much smaller Town Meeting this year due to coronavirus.

Last Thursday, the Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to halve the quorum needed to conduct Town Meeting. Instead of 124 members, the meeting will be able to proceed with only 62 in attendance.

Some Milford Town Meeting members had expressed fear about a large group meeting. Two weeks ago, Precinct 5 meeting member Lauren Wilton sent a letter to Moderator Michael Noferi asking for a remote option. Even though coronavirus is slowing down, the state is still adding hundreds of cases per day.

The reduction in quorum is being done under a state law implemented as coronavirus was heating up in Massachusetts in March. The 2020 Town Meeting is set to begin on June 29 at Milford High School. You can see the full warrant here.
