Milford Cultural Council Bounces Back With New Members

The town was in danger of losing the council just a few months ago — now it has six new members.

MILFORD, MA — Milford's Cultural Council is back from the brink — just six months ago selectmen weren't sure the council would survive the year, now it has six new members. In January, the council's chairwoman resigned from her position with no replacement ready.

Six new members were appointed to the Milford Cultural Council, increasing membership to fourteen. The council also now has a chairperson, Geri Eddins. Bryan Cole was appointed Council Vice Chairperson and Nicole Romiglio was appointed as Council Secretary through unanimous Council vote.

The purpose of the Council is to allocate state grant funds to organizations and community groups specifically for events that promote excellence, education, and diversity in the arts, humanities and sciences for the betterment of the town of Milford.

“The Milford Cultural Council is proud to allocate funding for a diverse range of activities and events in our community each year. We are actively seeking feedback from residents regarding what types of projects and events they would like to see offered. Residents may submit suggestions by email, by speaking with a member of the Council, or by attending one of our meetings,” said Eddins.

Between November 1, 2019 and December 30, 2019 the Council will hold voting meetings to make decisions on applications, send denial letters and handle reconsideration requests. By January 15, 2020 the Council will begin to notify applicants of their funding.

When former chairwoman Maggie McIsaac resigned she said in her resignation letter that participation declined in the last few years and no other members on the current council were interested in stepping up to serve as chair.
