Milford Elementary Student Wins In MA STEM Competition
Woodland Elementary student Nathaniel Kerr developed a solar-powered fan.
MILFORD, MA — A student at Milford's Woodland Elementary won first-place in a statewide STEM competition recently. The STEM Week Challenge took place in October involving some 60,000 students from across the state.
Woodland Elementary student Nathaniel Kerr won first place in the online competition for 3rd to 5th graders. Kerr designed a solar-powered fan. He had to figure out a way to get enough power from the solar panels to power the fan, and how to wire the electricity to charge a battery.
The STEM Week Challenge was presented by the Mass STEM Hub and Project Lead The Way (PLTW) last month. STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) professionals helped advise students during their work.
