Milford Lady Hawks Topple King Philip

Last time the King Philip girls’ basketball team faced Milford, it was the beginning of the season and the Warriors were 1-0 by the end of the night. Fast-forward to the consolation game of the Medway Holiday Showdown and it was a different story for the Warriors and the Lady Hawks.

“It was just both teams were undisciplined. It was just a matter of which team could play the best-undisciplined basketball won,” King Philip coach Megan Barry said.

In a game full of turnovers and sloppy offense, the Lady Hawks (2-4) overcame a 9-9 tie at halftime to beat the Warriors (3-4) 40-28.

After a rough first quarter that saw the Hawks leading 4-2, the Warriors attempted to get back in the game, but couldn’t get the shots they needed to pull away.

Towards the end of the quarter, undisciplined play by KP sent the Hawks to the charity stripe multiple times but Medway couldn’t take advantage of the opportunities as they went 3-12 in the first half alone from the free throw line.

A 9-0 run early in the third quarter was all Milford needed to pull away in a game with minimal momentum. Taking advantage of a weak KP defense near the basket, the Hawks capitalized on second chances points and found ways to draw even more fouls off the Warriors’ defense.

The Warriors were able to get to within six with less than four minutes remaining in the game but foul trouble once again hurt the Warriors as nine of the Hawk’s final 15 points were from the free throw line.

Milford's Kendall Lindsay was the game's leading scorer with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Christine Fraga got the other double-double for the Hawks with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
