Milford Police Resolve Hours-Long Standoff

MILFORD, MA — Milford police evacuated residents from a multi-family home Sunday evening after responding to what began as a civil dispute and escalated into a three-hour standoff involving an armed individual, officials said.

Officers were called to a residence in the Depot Street area around 6:29 p.m. on Sunday to preserve the peace during a civil dispute, according to police.

Police said the situation intensified when an individual inside the home refused to open the door and told officers they had a knife and would hurt themselves and anyone who entered.

Due to the volatile nature of the incident, residents of the multi-family dwelling were evacuated while additional resources responded to the scene, including the Milford Police Department Special Operations Team, Family Services Unit and the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Crisis Negotiator Team.

“When dealing with tense situations like this, it’s critical to use every resource at our disposal to preserve the safety of our residents and those involved,” Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino said in a statement.

At around 9:06 p.m., the individual surrendered to law enforcement without further incident and was transported to Milford Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

No injuries were reported.
