Milford Surveying Parents About Fall Reopening Plan

Milford Public Schools is providing parents with three options for what school might look like beginning this fall.

MILFORD, MA — Milford is planning for the reopening of schools this fall amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and officials are asking parents to choose one of three options for what that will look like.

On Monday, the district sent a survey to parents to gauge how many students might fit into each option. The options include a full return to school with new health measures; a hybrid of in-person and remote learning; and all-remote learning.

No matter what which option parents choose, they will be held to the same curriculum and grading standards as if it were a normal school year, according to the district. Parents will be asked to commit to an option by July 27.

"Unfortunately, we will not be able to determine which of these three models we will begin the year in until August," Superintendent Kevin McIntyre wrote in a letter to parents this week. "This decision will be driven by public health data and other local factors."

School in Milford will look much different if all students return to in-person learning. Desks will be spaced farther apart, and all students and staff over age 2 will have to wear masks, according to a presentation released last week.

The state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has asked each district in the state to submit a reopening plan by the end of July. DESE has provided a set of guidelines for schools to follow, but is not forcing districts to follow a specific plan.
