Milford Teacher & Nurse Honored At MA State House

One was a semi-finalist for Teacher of the Year and the other was named and Unsung Heroine.

MILFORD, MA — Two members of the Milford Public Schools were honored at the State House this week. One was a semi-finalist for Teacher of the Year and the other was named and Unsung Heroine — both touched the lives of kids in and out of Milford Schools.

Eamon Cunningham was named a semi-finalist for the state's Teacher of the Year program and honored in the State House on Thursday. Cunningham is an English teacher at Milford High School and has been teaching at Milford High for almost ten years. He is the the CTL of the English Department and teaches AP English Language & Composition and World Literature, both the honors and college prep classes.

Cunningham wrote a 500-page textbook about rhetoric and composition and authored several scholarly articles as well. He is on the development committee for three large-scale standardized exams, MCAS, PARCC and MTEL. He is also a lecturer at Framingham State University's English Department.

Lisa White is a Registered Nurse who has served various roles in the Milford Public Schools for
almost 20 years. She was named an Unsung Hero on Tuesday by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women and recommended by Rep. Brian Murray.

White is presently Wellness Nurse and has worked to implement and coordinate programs for behavioral health and substance abuse prevention, education and awareness. She has also worked to facilitate health education programming for students with intellectual disabilities and served as
a liaison between school staff and community agencies to identify students at risk. White also provides professional development to teachers, coaches and parents covering various health topics. Participate in numerous community agencies and organizations.

She served as a volunteer for the Milford Summer Food Program bringing meals to under served students. She is a board member at the Milford Youth Center and provides free alterations to prom gowns for students in need at Jackie’s Boutique.
