MILFORD, MA — One of Milford's newest police officers received an award for his life-saving efforts last year.

Officer Logan Beausoleil, who joined the Milford Police Department earlier this month, was the recipient of the Life Saving Award at the Massachusetts Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators Awards and Scholarship Ceremony on Jan. 9.

Officer Beausoleil, who worked at the Boston College Police Department before coming to Milford, and a fellow officer of his, Sgt. Dina Smith, were nominated by a Lieutenant for intervening when a fellow officer suffered a heart attack during a training in May.

"I'm grateful I was able to help a co-worker and fellow officer," Officer Beausoleil told Patch in a statement. "The credit should also go to the other officers in attendance who help were able to help when we recognized it was a medical emergency."

Officer Beausoleil and his coworkers were conducting a CPR/First Responder training class for the Boston College Police Department when another officer abruptly left the classroom.

Officer Beausoleil followed the officer outside the door and spoke with them, also waving another Sgt. Smith to come out. Smith advised the officer that they may have been suffering a heart attack.

The officer was taken to the hospital and immediately taken into surgery. That officer has since made a full recovery.

The Lieutenant who nominated the pair said it was for their decisive decision-making and quick actions that may have saved someone's life.

Now, the Milford Police Department said it's proud of Officer Beausoleil’s actions and is excited to have him on board.
