Woodland School On Target for June Completion
The new school is expected to be ready for the 2016-17 school year.

Construction of the new Woodland School remains on schedule according to an update from Milford School Committee member Patrick Holland.
With the project moving forward, the steel for all three sections is up, with the roof for the first section installed. The $60 million project is on track for completion in June 2016.
“The speed at which that skeleton is going up is unbelievable to me. They expect to have the building closed in before the bad weather comes,” Holland said.

School Committee member Jennifer Parson recently attended the topping off ceremony in June, celebrating the installation of the final steel beam.
“It was humbling to watch that last beam floating off a cable and being put into place,” Parson said. “The building is unbelievable, just the size and scope of it.”

When asked if the building would be ready for a one-to-one tech initiative, Superintendent Robert Tremblay said they would move forward in a gradual manner.
Students and teachers will use Chromebooks as part of the pilot program, with the use of technology becoming more widespread once students and teachers become more comfortable with the netbooks.
“The teachers need to understand the tools and how effective they can be,” Parsons said.
The Woodland School broke ground in April and is expected to be open in time for the 2016-17 school year.
