A Great Smile Could Land you a Great Job

Learn how a brighter smile can give you a competitive edge in the job market.

In today's job market, appearance isn't just about good looks, it's about economic survival. That's why the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) suggests that if you're looking for a job, you should start the process with a dental visit.

The success of your next job interview could actually hinge on your smile. We would all like to think success is based on merit, but if you believe the results of two new NEWSWEEK polls, you'd better think again. Susan Bixler's best-seller, "The Professional Image" details an older study conducted by Fairleigh Dickinson University on how appearance impacts starting salaries.

The results: Starting salaries were up to 20 percent higher in the "after" group.

Employers are looking for applicants who will represent their company with a confident, positive self-image. Chances are, you'll smile a lot less if you're embarrassed by missing, yellow, stained, gapped, chipped or crooked teeth. Or you may be confident but you won't look it.

A whiter, brighter smile can help you project confidence and put you at a clear advantage.
