Ariana Launie Battles for the South Title

MIAA South Sectional Singles Tennis Finals

Westwood High School, Westwood, Mass, May 28, 2011 – Ariana Launie and Alana Prinos both had the MIAA- Singles South Sectional title on their minds as they met for the second time. The same title was at stake when they squared off at Old Rochester High in the year 2009 with Prinos coming out on top.

Both players had marched through the South Section competition earlier this month so family and friends knew this was going to be a great match. Each side had a strong showing of adoring fans.

The first set Prinos would prevail 6-3 as both players had their moments. Launie would come storming back in the second set winning it 6-3. Nearly two hours had passed in the hot sun, but both players were determined. The next set would last 45 minutes and both Launie and Prinos would miss critical shots, but both would bring the crowd to their feet as they also made amazing shots.

Suddenly it was over as both competitors ran to the net to greet each other laughing and hugging. The fans and the MIAA officials were on their feet applauding the players. Alana Prinos would take home the first place trophy winning the match 6 -3, 3-6, and 6-3.

“ The match was very intense and Alana (Prinos) is very tough to play. Ariana (Launie) got her points in the second set winning it 6-3,” said Milton’s head tennis coach Liz Mercer. “Alana’s serve won it for her in the third set. Overall it was a wonderful match.”
