Boston Rugby Football Club Closes out Summer Season
The Boston Rugby Club Under 19 Team hosted Duke of York on Tuesday evening.
The Boston Rugby Club (BRC) and Coach Joe Dolan have done it again by putting on another exciting evening of rugby.
On Tuesday night, the Duke of York’s Military School, Dover, England played the Boston Rugby Club’s U-19 (under 19 years) team that included three Milton High players, Alex Corcoran, Jim Linehan, and Matt Donahue. The students have spent their summer playing rugby for the BRC.
Milton’s Joe Dolan has been coaching the BRC’s U19 team this summer and was instrumental in bringing two rugby games to Brooks Field. The first BRC rugby game was played last week against Dungannon from Ireland. Dolan also arranged a game with his U-19 team against Duke of York, which concluded their summer series of games.

Head Coach for the Duke of York Military School Rugby Team, Dave Bartley stated, “We are a military school and the majority of our students are from military families who are serving through-out the UK. A lot of them are based abroad so it gives the students a stable base to be educated instead of moving about. We know rugby is an up and coming sport in the U.S. and a great place to visit. We have five matches and tonight’s is our first one. We then play Mystic River and then to New York. We have a busy 12 days and then we return for our regular rugby season. This beats any pre-season games and they get to play rugby on a American football pitch (field)."
The BRC would prevail 17-10 in the exciting game that was enjoyed by all the fans who attended.

“It was a fantastic game,” said Bartley. “The Boston team is very well-organized and I think they deserved it. Our boys really enjoyed it. It was a close game, 17-10. Fifty boys played rugby today on an American football pitch.”
“The Boston boys came out hard, tackled hard and scored quick against the Duke of York,” said BRC Coach Joe Dolan. “Tackling and passing the ball won the game for us. It was a great international victory for the boys of Boston. We had players from Milton, Xaverian, Brookline, BC High and St John’s Prep. We had a great turn out of fans and look forward to doing this again next summer.”
