Milton 350th Anniversary Horse Show Trots into Prowse Farm

On Saturday, October 6, many Miltonians and other area residents gathered at Prowse Farm in the Blue Hills to enjoy a traditional horse show to help celebrate the town’s 350^th anniversary. 

Old timers and not-so-old timers alike recall a day when riding academies, private horse stables, and occasional horse shows were a common site in Milton. This event was held to commemorate those times.

Situated at the base of Big Blue Hill, Prowse Farm (also known as Maresfield) was the perfect location for this day’s events. 

J. Malcolm Forbes of Milton bred his famous trotters there in the 19^th century and the estate house was open for tours honoring that history. But the place to be was outdoors on this beautiful autumn day where handsomely groomed horses, ponies and sharply dressed riders competed in walk/trot, cantor, and jumper class divisions. 

To finish the show’s events, children on their mounts competed in a costume division which many agreed was one of the major highlights of the show. While trophies and ribbons were awarded to the winners most riders and spectators talked of making this an annual event for Milton and the nearby riding community.
