Milton High Beats Braintree in MIAA Semifinals

The Milton High boys hockey team earned a spot in the MIAA Boys Division 1 South championship after defeating Braintree, 2-0.

You always know when the Milton Wildcats (18-3-3, No. 3 seed) and the Braintree Wamps (14-7-3, No. 7 seed) mix it up in sports the games will be exciting and dramatic. 

This game was no different on Thursday, March 8, at the Gallo Arena, Buzzards Bay. More importantly, a berth to the MIAA Boys Division 1 South championship game against Natick on Sunday was on the line. 

Fans from both towns packed the stands and surely the cheers could be heard over the bridge all the way to the Blue Hills.

Neither team disappointed their towns as they played action-packed hockey.

Milton goalie Jay Hankard, 26 saves, shut the Braintree offense down while his mates focused on breaking into the Braintree net scoring twice against goalie Dan Murphy.

The first goal coming off a collaboration between Brian Higgins and Derek Curley on a power play at the 11:49 mark of the second period. 

Higgins would return to Braintree's net scoring at the 5:02 mark of the third period. That was all the Wildcats needed as they held on for the win 2-0.

The Wildcats will get ready for another tough game against the Red and Blue of Natick, Sunday. 

The Wildcats played the Red and Blue twice during the regular season resulting in a tie and a win. Game time will be at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, at the Gallo Arena, Buzzards Bay.
