Milton Loses to Weymouth 48-6

Milton v Weymouth, September 9.

opened its season against last year's Bay State Conference champions Weymouth. Both teams share the mascot name "Wildcats" and the game has become known as the battle of the cats and indeed it was just that.

Weymouth wasted little time getting on the board scoring the first touchdown and by halftime Weymouth was up 42-0.

Milton was fighting to stay in the game, but several missed plays would keep Milton in a defensive mode for most of the game.

Milton quarterback Liam Collins made several nice plays as did running back Antonio Houston. Late in the fourth quarter Collins threw a TD pass to Colin O'Brien and that would be the only TD for the Wildcats. The extra point would fail and Milton trailed Weymouth 48-6 and that was how the game ended with a win for Weymouth.

"Weymouth had some veteran skilled players who made some great plays," said Milton's Head Coach Jim Bowes. "They hit us in some soft spots that resulted in scores. Antonio Houston (Milton) was tremendous running the ball and our young offensive line played a great game. But we made a lot of mistakes and hopefully we will learn from it."

The Milton Boosters started the nights event with a tailgate party that got the fans ready for the exciting night of football. Refreshments were served that included dogs, burgers and soda and enjoyed by all. For the youngsters there was face painting and other events.

Next up for Milton is a day game at Newton North on September 17. Game time is 1 p.m.
