On Senior Night Milton Loses a Heartbreaker

Girls Varsity Softball - Milton v Dedham

Milton, Mass, May 25, 2011, Varsity Softball - On a warm night the Lady Wildcats of Milton played the Marauders of Dedham at the Gile Road softball field. This was also senior night for Milton and the players and their parents shared the stage before the game. Playing in their last home game was senoirs, Brenna Callahan, Abby Macomber, Stephanie Rice, Lindsey Escoto, Angela Lambert, Collen Ryan and Caroline Fahey.

The game would turn out to be a pitching duel between Milton’s Brenna Callahan and Dedham’s Brooke Sheehan. Callahan would throw 13 strike-outs keeping the Dedham batters in control. But it would take only one hit from a Dedham player in the top of the 7th to snatch the win from the Lady Wildcats.

With two outs and three Dedham players on base, Milton leading 4-2, Callahan sent a fast ball over the plate. Dedham hit it the ball flush sending it into left field for a grand slam home run pushing the score up in favor of Dedham  6-4.

Milton would try to even it up, but Sheehan did what she has been doing best all season for the Marauders and that is close it out. To everyone’s disappointment Milton would strike out leaving one on base and losing 6-4.

Milton finishes out the season on Saturday May 28, 2011 playing in the Cardinal Spellman Tournament in Brockton. Start time for the tournament is 12 noon.
