The Path to Keeping Your New Year's Resolution
Studies show you might be more likely to keep this year's resolution if you start hiking in the Blue Hills.

Did you start the year by joining a gym, only to find the classes full and the ellipticals busy? Take heart. You’ll always find opportunities to exercise at the Blue Hills! You can even feel virtuous for escaping the crowds to enjoy a brisk walk in nature. You probably don't need researchers to tell you, but last February a study was released that confirms what you might expect: people who exercise outdoors enjoy it more and are more likely to want to exercise again.
So if you really want to keep your resolution, bundle up and head for the hills!
If you’ve been doing more sitting (or eating) than walking, you’ll want to start out with an easy, flat trail, like the one through Fowl Meadow in the westernmost portion of the Reservation. The wide, flat path that you’ll follow from the parking lot at the corner of Neponset Valley Parkway and Brush Hill Road will take you through the largest freshwater marsh remaining inside Route 128. The full walk is 2 1/2 miles and makes a 5-mile round trip. But since it’s not a loop, turn around whenever you want.
