Wildcats Win First Game of the Season

The Milton High football team defeated Wellesley 34-28.

On October 5, 2012 the Milton High School Wildcats would host the Raiders of Wellesley at Brooks Field Milton.

The Wildcats came into the game with a 0-4 record and looking to upset the Raiders who were, at game time, 2-2.

The Raiders wasted little time getting on the board scoring two TD’s and leading 14-0 in the second period. You could feel an uneasness from the crowd and the Milton team was tense.

This would all change when RB Jonathan Pierre took the hand-off from QB Liam Collins. Pierre would move side to side, eluding tacklers, but stayed in behind the line of scrimmage. It seemed like forever, then suddenly, he stopped and threw a 68-yard touchdown pass to a waiting Chavinskee Milcent who ran into the endzone untouched. The crowd was roaring with cheers. Joe Kennedy would kick the extra point and the Wildcats were on the board 14-7.

Wellesley’s QB John Caraviello tried his own TD pass, but Tyler Greene would intercept it giving the ball back to the Wildcats.

With the momentum in their favor, QB Liam Collins would scramble in the back field until WR Kareem Patterson was open in the endzone. Then a 12 yard direct pass to Patterson put the Wildcats within one 14-13. Joe Kennedy would make the extra point kick and the score was tied.

Wellesley would score before the half, but it was a different ballgame for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats came out for the second half energized and a confidence was apparent. QB Liam Collins was feeling in control and the team was firing on all cylinders.

In the third quarter Collins would find an open Colin O’Brien for a 17-yard pass for his second TD of the game. Joe Kennedy would kick the extra point and the game was tied.

Before the third quarter ended, Jonathan Pierre would break out of the backfield and run 35 yards into the endzone giving the Wildcats another TD. Joe Kennedy’s kick would give Milton the lead 28-21.

A few minutes into the fourth quarter Liam Collins would toss his third TD pass of the game when he found an open Tyler Greene for a 53 yard TD. Joe Kennedy’s kick would miss the extra point. The Wildcats were now leading 34-21.

As the game was winding down, Wellesley scored again pulling into 6 points of a tie. Conor Regan would make the catch of the night as he intercepted a Raider’s pass securing Milton’s first win of the season 34-28.

Next up for the Wildcats will be a home game on October 12th against the Rockets of Needham. Game time is 7 p.m.
