Smoke Signals was written by Sherman Alexie, who also authored the bestselling book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, which served as the First-Year Common Read for incoming members of the Class of 2018. The Common Read program was created for incoming first year students to help ease the transition to college by creating a shared reading experience that helps them connect with other students, faculty and staff at Curry College.
