Despite Rainout, the Milton Summer Concert Series is Ready to Begin

The weekly concert series at the Town of Milton Building will begin Wednesday June 9

In Milton, the beginning of summer also marks the beginning of the Summer Concert Series, which is an ongoing event offered by Milton Parks and Recreation Department and the Board of Selectmen.

The concerts will be held on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m., with a couple minor exceptions which can be found on the event schedule. All of the concerts are held at the Baron Hugo Gazebo on the Town Green at the Town Hall. The first concert of the season, featuring Part Time Lovers, was scheduled for June 1, but was cancelled due to weather and rescheduled for August 24.

There is no real theme for the Summer Concert Series, just good music. All participating bands are sponsored specifically for the event. So if a group has a sponsor they're welcome to play. Sponsors for the series include: Fallon Ambulance, Milton Early Childhood Alliance/Milton Parks and Chapman Cole & Gleason.

"We try to get music that everyone will like," said Gayle Neville of the Parks and Recreation Department. "A lot of the bands have been doing this for about 10 years, so people really seem to like them."

On Wednesday, June 9, the series will be hosting their Children's Day event at the regular time with performances by Wayne Potash "Yodel For A Fish." This is an exciting event that a very large number of children will attend. "It's quite a sight to see," said Neville, thinking back to previous years.

As the first concert date has shown, weather may be a concern for future concerts. All shows, however, do have rain dates set aside. If the weather is iffy, prospective attendees may call the Parks and Recreation line at 617-898-4940 after 4 p.m. the day of the show for cancellation information.

So now, with the arrival of nice weather, the Summer Concert Series is ready to begin.
