How to Stay Cool in Milton this Summer
A list of locations and activities that will help you beat the heat.
There's no doubt we are now entering the hottest part of the summer, luckily with some obvious choices and some creative thinking there are plenty of ways to stay cool right here in Milton. Milton Patch has created a list of the best spots to chill this summer.
Houghton's Pond
Among the most obvious way's to beat the heat in the summer is to take a dip. Houghton's Pond offers a great opportunity to swim for free under the supervision of lifeguards. Lifeguards are stationed on the beach from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week.

The pond is 24 acres in size and up to 42 feet deep. One of the sides has a sand beach, while the rest of the water is surround by woods and walking trails. For anyone not interested in actually getting in the water, fishing is permitted at Houghton's Pond, which is stocked with trout.
Caldwell Pool at Cunningham Park

The other aquatic option for staying cool during the summer is the Milton-exclusive Caldwell Pool. According to its website, the pool, which is located at Cunningham Park, is the largest privately owned pool east of the Mississippi.
Membership tags are available to Milton residents only, and the pool operates from June 21 to August 22. Swimming lessons are also held at Caldwell Pool.
Blue Hills Reservation Trails
With over 7,000 acres of land and 125 miles of trails, the Blue Hills Reservation has options for everyone when it comes to outdoor activities. There are rugged hikes and lengthy mountain bike trails, but there are also more leisurely strolls. In an effort to stay cool, but still enjoy the outdoors at the Blue Hills, less experienced hikers can take walks around Houghton's Pond or the Trailside Museum. Both areas have short shaded loops though the woods.
Milton's Parks
With in the Town of Milton there are nine public parks. A relaxing picnic or a carefree trip to the playground is always a nice way to enjoy the warm months of summer. Though there is no swimming allowed at the Milton Parks, patrons can fish at Turner's Pond or walk along the water at the Town Landing on Wharf Street.
Milton Public Library
When the sun is beating down and even swimming seems to be a daunting task, Milton residents can escape inside to the Milton Public Library during weekdays. The cool building offers a hefty list of activities and programs, not to mention three stories worth of reading materials.
The summer months, which run from June 26 to Labor Day, include: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The library is closed Saturday and Sunday.
