MILTON, MA — Those feeling isolated, or coping with loss, amid the coronavirus health crisis include students lacking the social connection that comes with school, athletics and other activities typical of middle school and high school life.

Milton is offering a free opportunity for all Milton Public Schools Pierce Middle School and Milton High students to help cope with the loss they might be feeling, provide tools and tips to practice mental wellness, self-care and self-love both during this difficult time, and beyond.

Ivy Watts, a Waltham High alumna who went on to an All-American track and field career at the University of New Haven, has created the module to help students and young athletes deal with some of these struggles.

Watts' course is called "Mental Health Support For Students During COVID-19 And Beyond." The videos, audio, and written content that fill these modules are designed to help students cope with the loss they might be feeling. Students can go here to access the page, create a subscription for one, username and unique password for lifetime access.

"I've talked with students who tell me that they feel selfish that they feel bad they are missing sports, and their prom, or graduation, when other people are dying," Watts told Patch in April. "But I tell them not to feel selfish. That is part of self-care. You can be upset about those things for yourself and still be compassionate about others."
