Milton High School Hosts Fundraising Walkathon
The Milton High School hosted its 6th Annual Fundraising Walkathon on Saturday, February 12.
On Saturday, February 12, held its annual Fundraising Walkathon for the sixth year in a row.
A couple hundred students and their families came to the Copeland Field House, made donation pledges and walked around the indoor track. While music played, students got to hang around with their friends and play other sports while waiting for the bigger game events.
The Walkathon began as a way to help the students raise money for athletics, as well as the clubs. The pledges are separated by grade, as a way to help motivation. The seniors, juniors, sophomores, freshmen and incoming freshmen all pledged separately, and whichever grade raised the most money received a prize, such as free prom tickets or a homework pass.

When the Walkathon first began, the students raised $30,000 dollars for clubs and sports . In the following years, that amount has steadily declined, and last year, they only raised $8,000. The school committee wanted to increase that amount and raise $15,000 this year, so they needed to find a way to motivate the students to raise more money.
Thus, they put the planning of the event into the hands of the National Honors Club. The Honors Club handled all the publicity, ran the event, and they even created new activities, such as face painting, badminton matches, free-for-all basketball, and the student versus teacher dodge ball tournament. The student involvement definitely paid off, as more students participated than previous years.
