Milton Mustangs Varsity and Freshman Teams Face Manets

The Milton Mustangs Youth Football varsity and freshman squads played Houghs Neck last weekend.

The following is an update on the Milton Mustangs Youth Football program, provided by Jen Tegan.


Milton Mustangs Freshman Team

Last Saturday's game was a rematch against the Houghs Neck Manets, and an opportunity to avenge the only loss of the season. The Mustangs came out strong, scoring on the first drive of the game. The Mustangs continued to move the ball well, scored again, and went into halftime with a 14-0 lead.

The Manets came on strong in the second half, scoring twice, and tying the game at 14-14.  Late in the game, the Manets broke free on a long run, but coughed up the ball on a fumble that the Mustangs recovered. There were less than two minutes left, but the Mustangs had one more chance. They gave it their all, but simply ran out of time.   

The Freshman team update was submitted by Freshman Coach Mark O'Brien.

The Milton Mustangs varsity team came out strong on Sunday, October 9th against the Houghs Neck Manets scoring two touchdowns on successful running plays. The Mustangs gave up an interception right before the half that put the Manets in scoring position with one minute left on the clock. The Mustang defense held strong and kept the Manets from scoring.  At halftime the Mustangs led 13-0.

The Manets came out after halftime fired up with a nice 10-yard pass play that put them on the 4-yard line and eventual touchdown.The Mustangs defense, looking to hold the lead, forced a fumble from the Manet offense, this turnover led to another scoring opportunity for the Mustangs.

As the clock ticked down, the Manets broke away for a late 50-yard run for an additional touchdown. The Mustangs aggressively blocked the extra point to hold onto their 20-12 lead. As time ran out on the Manets, the Mustangs improved to 4-1 for the season, and face the Elks next week.

Milton Mustangs JV Team

JV had a bye week and did not play. They are looking forward to next Saturday against the Elks.
